Amazon Fire TV and Fire Tablet Game Controller Guide

You’ll find a lot of information searching the web on what controllers you can use with your Amazon Fire devices.  I have attempted to sum things up here, and will provide more details and reviews of various controllers as I’m able to buy them and test them.

The list is broken down into several parts:

Amazon Native Controllers

Amazon has produced 2 different controllers.  Only one remains available.

3rd Party Controllers

Several sites have dug into the the Amazon Fire TV software on rooted devices to get a list of controllers that have custom key map support on the Fire TV platform.  Interestingly, having this support is NOT a guarantee that the controller will work on the Fire TV platform without significant work, including rooting the device.  Please make sure a controller is actually compatible before ordering.  Being on the list below doesn’t mean it’s been verified as compatible.  I am working on various controllers on researching compatibility and updating the list as I go.

“Supported” 3rd Party Wireless Controllers

Following is a list of wireless controllers with Fire TV keymaps, including the information I was able to gather about them either first hand or looking around the Internet.  Note that having a Fire TV keymap is no guarantee that there is a Kindle Fire keymap.

Other Wired Controllers That Work

Wired controllers are only going to be supported on the full Fire TV platform through its USB port, or on the 2016 Fire TV Stick via USB OTG.  Connecting multiple controllers will require a USB hub.  I haven’t put as much work into this category, but as above, while having a Fire TV keymap is no guarantee that everything will work, not having one is no guarantee that things won’t work.  Here is a collection of controllers that the Internet or manufacturer says work with Fire TV devices.
